Period of the Judges

They asked for a king 


God gave them Saul

Saul’s Kingdom

God removed Saul and raised
up David

Davidic Kingdom

God promised a seed

God has raised up Jesus

The point of the message is that God has
faithfully brought them through to each new phase of their covenant history, in
spite of their rebellion. Paul ends the historical preamble with God’s promise
to David of a seed. He will take them into the next phase of their covenant
relationship.

The danger is that they will be "left behind" and no-longer be part of God's people
